Elevator/Lift & Catapult Layout

Once the user has defined the Landing Zone configuration and General Flight Deck Geometry he/she next has the opportunity to add in elevators/lifts and catapults on the flight deck.  currently the elevators/lifts are defined by their length and width as well as the location of the center front edge aft of the ship's FP and its distance off the ship's centerline.  As such the spreadsheet is currently limited to assuming rectangular shaped elevators/lifts, but I hope to soon modify the spreadsheet to allow for either trapezoidal lifts and/or the "toed" shape used on many modern US Navy carriers.  Based on the input data for the elevators/lifts the spreadsheet estimate the w500+ and w100+ weights for these items.

Using the data collected on Catapults the user then also has the opportunity to select the type of catapults fitted on the vessel and their location on the ship, by entering the location of the forward end of the catapult aft of the ship's FP, the distance of this point off the ship's centerline and its angle in relation to the ship's centerline.

In this section of the spreadsheet the user can ither select an existing catapult or they can approximate an alternate design.  With repect to entering an alternate design the user has three options, where they;
  • enter the arresting energy, power stroke length, and track length for the catapult, and the spreadsheet then estimates its overall weight
  • enter the arresting energy, but allow the spreadsheet to estimate the power stroke length, track length, and weigths based on trendlines for US Type catapults
  • enter the arresting energy, but allow the spreadsheet to estimate the power stroke length, track length, and weigths based on trendlines for UK Type catapults
In this section of the spreadsheet a layout of the vessel showing the primary info on the Landing ZoneCenterline, forward most and aft most arrestor wires, and 'Safe Parking' lines are shown to assit the user in locating the catapults and lifts/elevators, as shown below.
